PRE-INSTALLATION
SURVEY

The importance of a good quality base design for wireless installations cannot be underestimated. From getting the balance of access point count, to ensuring appropriate and maintainable mounting locations right through to identifying sources of interference, a pre-installation survey should be seen as a prerequisite for choosing a vendor.
Pre installation surveys offer excellent value and mitigate from excessive spend for in flight projects in redesign, additional hardware, or fault finding once the system is in and not performing.
The three types of pre-installation surveys available from Projective Consulting:

 

Desktop Survey – A low cost but detailed planning survey using the latest industry standard planning tools. All surveying is done remotely from site using provided plans and wall make up. A detailed report is provided with bill of materials, AP location drawings, and simulated heatmaps for coverage, data rates and throughput.

Hybrid Survey – Outputs as with the desktop survey but the experienced wireless design engineer will visit site to take sample attenuation readings for walls and building objects (lifts etc.) It provides a greater level of detail and assurance for a relatively low increase in cost.

Full Pre-Installation Site Survey – A highly reliable detailed pre-installation report. All measurements are done on site using a preconfigured standalone access point. Areas are surveyed to the boundary of required coverage levels, data sampling is taken throughout to identify any areas of high retry, and coverage, data rates and throughputs are measured in real time rather than simulation. A report as above is given as standard detailing the outcomes and for a small additional charge a photopack for the installation can be provided.

Health Check Surveys – When a wireless network is not performing as expected, it can often be simple checks that are required to find resolutions. Where this proves not to be the case, a detailed insight into the RF spectrum within which the wireless network operates must be undertaken. Using the latest industry standard wireless and spectrum analysis tools, an experienced wireless engineer will visit site and analyse real time data. Off spectrum analysis can also be performed to ensure non wireless interference is not a root cause. A report including software recordings of the analysis is provided identifying sources of issues, and recommendations for improvements will be provided. Revisits can be made once recommendations have been implemented to ensure the expected improvements are being seen.

Post Installation Surveys – Once a wireless installation is complete, all too often the IT department will go around with a laptop and tablet to ensure it is working as expected, at Projective Consulting we have seen all too often that networks are signed off when they are not actually working as designed, only for the IT support team to find the project is signed off and complete and it is down to them to resolve complex and often costly problems. A detailed post installation survey offers both the installer and the support team an agreed baseline of what has been done from day 1. Surveys can range from simplistic passive surveys to complex and detailed active iperf surveys depending on client requirements. In all cases, detailed handover reports are tailored to the client’s needs and raw data can be provided for support teams to use as an ongoing reference.

Help Desk Technical Support

Projective consulting can offer a single helpdesk for all wireless related problems within the network.
The service desk will manage each call right through from raising up to resolution, including escalations or interactions with other support organisations within or contracted to your business or from initial recording to closure and when appropriate the engineer will escalate the support to the engineering team or third party to achieve resolution.

With an increasing number of families opting to take their holidays within the UK, Holiday Parks have become more popular and have seen an increase in demand to provide a more reliable WIFI service. This is now an additional revenue stream for the business therefore ensuring paid for access to WIFI is accessional to ensure families not only choose to pay for a WIFI package but choose a package that lasts the length of their stay.
